PETALING JAYA: Cross-border cooperation between the police and Thai authorities led to the arrest of a Malaysian man wanted over an assault with a dangerous weapon case in Klang earlier this month.

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said the 32-year-old suspect was nabbed on Monday while hiding in Dannok, Thailand, Bernama reported.

Razarudin said the suspect had entered Thailand at 6.42am on Oct 11 through the Bukit Kayu Hitam crossing in Kedah. He was driving a car accompanied by a man and woman.

“Intelligence work revealed that he was staying at a hotel in Dannok,” he said.

This information was passed to the Thai authorities, who arrested the suspect in Dannok town before deporting him based on the Malaysian police’s warrant.

Police at the Bukit Kayu Hitam immigration, customs, quarantine and security complex detained the suspect at the border checkpoint.

Razarudin said the man, who is also believed to have been involved in extortion, is under remand until Oct 21.

The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with a weapon, an offence which carries a jail term of up to 10 years, a fine, or whipping, or any two of the punishments, upon conviction.
