Barely three months after Samsung released the Galaxy Z Fold 6, rumors have begun brewing about a special edition. It builds excitement for the next big foldable phone, as such models often come with design changes or exclusive features. Samsung itself has hinted at a new Galaxy device to arrive on October 21st, and all indications point to the Z Fold 6.
Galaxy Z Fold 6 teased in classic-themed video
In September, Android Headlines leaked an image of a thinner version of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 to be called the Special Edition. It has a different camera design, a metal-look back, and a thinner body. The main screen is 8-inches, and the cover screen is 6.5-inches. It will have a 200MP camera and might only be sold in China and South Korea. The release date is still unknown, but it’s supposed to come out later this year.
Samsung’s latest teaser video hints that the release is closer than we may think. A day ago, on October 18th, Samsung’s official Korean Newsroom uploaded a YouTube video teasing an invitation to come see their next major device.
The video shows a man in a suit walking up to a door and sliding the envelope under a door after knocking. All we know from the 12-second clip is that the device will arrive on October 21st, and there’s no telling what it is.
A slimmer profile & bolder camera design
The special edition of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is rumored to be 4.5mm thin when unfolded. When folded, it’s 10.6mm thin. The Z Fold 6 itself is 12.1mm thick when folded, and that’s not a big difference, about 1.5mm to be exact.
The phone may come with Android 14 preinstalled, although it’s not unlikely that Samsung will offer seven years of OS support as it has done with its recent flagships. So you can install Android 15 when it launches.
There’s also a noticeable difference in the camera island. It looks weirdly different from what Samsung normally designs for its premium phones. Popular Leaker, Evan Blass, shared a close-up view of the thicker, protruding island and the phone’s side buttons.
Another noticeable change is in the cover display, where there’s now a centered camera hole at the top, and both the display and the back of the phone are flatter, hiding the hinge on the outside.
Pricing and availability details for the special edition of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 phone are uncertain. But rumor has it that it won’t be widely available. It will likely only be sold in China and South Korea, which could just be another one of Samsung’s market strategies. More details may emerge closer to the launch, and it’s only four days away.
