Orji Kalu, the senator representing Abia north, says
President Bola Tinubu knows that Nigerians are experiencing economic hardship.
Speaking in an interview with Channels Television on
Thursday, Kalu said Tinubu moves around Abuja, the country’s capital, to feel
the people’s pulse.
The senator said the current economic hardship in the
country is not peculiar to Nigeria alone.
Kalu added that many nations are still battling the negative
impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, noting that developed countries are faring
better because they have developed a robust economy.
“Let me be honest; I
know things have not been the way they are supposed to be. The economy has not
been so friendly,” he said.
“This economic problem is going on almost everywhere in the
world.
“They (Tinubu’s government) are trying to reform the economy
and bring it to where it is supposed to be, but it is bringing hardship to our
people.
“The president knows
that Nigerians are suffering and hungry. He is a street person. He knows the
street very well.
“Some nights, he used his car to go out in Abuja to know
what was happening.
“He is not a president that is locked in a hole. He is not a
president who does not know what is going on.
“The president goes around the city. Whether there are
kidnappings or not, he goes around with one or two cars.”
Kalu disclosed that he earns N14 million monthly as a
senator, which he said consists of his salary and overhead expenses.
