BRIDGEPORT — A revamped historical theater and a contemporary art center are opening their doors for the first time as part of the annual Open House Chicago tours this weekend in Bridgeport.
Organized by the Chicago Architecture Center, the free event — unless otherwise noted — will allow neighbors and visitors from afar to check out neighborhood gems like the Ramova Theater, which was revived last year after a massive restoration project following decades of sitting empty.
Built in 1929 as a movie house, the Ramova now boasts a 1,500-capacity concert venue as well as a revived Ramova Grill and Other Hall Ramova, an outpost of the Brooklyn-based brewery. The City Council awarded the theater a historic landmarking status at a meeting last month.
Also joining Open House is the Zhou B Art Center, featuring the work of 50 resident artists with a focus on “promoting the contemporary convergence of Eastern and Western visuality in the United States,” according to Open House.
Here are all the Bridgeport locations included in this year’s event. Check individual listings for hours of operation.
