Daniel Cormier claims Alex Pereira and his team planned to withdraw from UFC 307 due to injury
Alex Pereira nearly pulled out of UFC 307 due to a rib injury and illness, as revealed by Daniel Cormier on ESPN MMA’s Good Guy / Bad Guy.
Pereira, who successfully defended his light heavyweight title against Khalil Rountree Jr., fought through the challenges despite requiring two rounds of antibiotics and dealing with other health issues.
Cormier explained that Pereiraโs team had informed the UFC of their intention to withdraw and suggested rescheduling the fight. The UFC was prepared to promote the womenโs bantamweight title bout between Raquel Pennington and Julianna Pena to the main event if necessary.
‘DC’ said:
“[Pereira] was hurt too. I talked to his manager and coach after the fight, and they told the UFC, ‘We’re gonna try to train in Salt Lake [City], but we might pull out.’ The UFC said, ‘That would suck, but weโll elevate one of the other title fights if needed.'”
