OTTAWA — While his colleagues in Ottawa dealt with the controversies and tensions swirling around Parliament Hill, one Toronto MP spent the weekend welcoming a new life into the world.
Spadina-Fort York MP Kevin Vuong and his wife, Elizabeth, welcomed their new baby daughter, Victoria Belinda, at Toronto’s Mount Sinai Hospital on Saturday, tipping the scales at 8-pounds, 2-ounces.
Speaking to The Toronto Sun, the Independent MP said he and his new family are over the moon.

“It is incredible how my daughter has only been with us for a little over a day, and she has already so quickly and completely become my reason for being,” he said.
“I want my daughter to grow up in a city and country that is safe, vibrant, and where the promise of a better life is possible for anyone willing to work for it — that’s the Toronto that welcomed my parents and the Canada, where in one generation my family went from refugees to one of their children serving in Parliament.”
Vuong, who has staunchly defended Toronto’s Jewish community in the face of rising hatred in the city, said it’s somewhat fitting their baby was born during Yom Kippur.
“It’s fitting, given the past year,” he said.
“She’s a Thanksgiving baby and for which I am so thankful to Sinai staff and everyone who took care of my two queens, and continue to take care of us.”
