Royal butler shares savage meal time difference for William and Harry as kids

One former royal butler has revealed that Prince Harry and Prince William often received different sized portions at meal times as young children.

Paul Burrell, who previously worked for the late Princess Diana, has revealed that William – who is two years older than Harry – often had bigger portions for breakfast than his younger brother.

Speaking about the two royals as children, Mr Burrell previously told the Sun: “When I look back now, I think maybe I was glimpsing the dynamic at play.”

Recalling one breakfast time at the royal palace, he said: “One time I saw the nanny give William three sausages at breakfast and Harry had two.

“And Harry would look at his plate and say, ‘How come he gets three? And I only get two.’”

He added: “Harry would fall quiet and suck it up, but that’s what he had to contend with, even in his own home.”

Although Harry was sometimes treated different by royal staff, their late mother always viewed her boys as “equals”.

He said: “In their mother’s eyes, they were absolutely equal. The princess doted on them both. But I can see that Harry found it tough living up to the standard set by William.”

When Harry announced his plans to step down as a senior working royal in 2020, the former royal butler shared that he believed it all stemmed from his childhood. He said: “He’s clearly hurt and angry at being ‘the spare’ and so he’s lashing out from that place.”

As reported by Good To Know, a psychotherapist and childhood trauma expert claims that Prince Harry and William’s rivary was “inevitable” given the differences in their childhoods.

Helen Villiers said: “If we look at William and Harry, growing up as children, William was heir to the throne, the firstborn boy and, therefore, he naturally has had much more media attention priority.

“There is a constant narrative that Harry is not as good as William, which of course is going to absolutely show up in their relationship with each other, because Harry will always feel that he’s less than and believe, potentially, that William buys into that narrative, which he probably will because that’s the narrative they’ve been taught.”
