HOWELL, NJ — If you are celebrating the Thanksgiving season Wednesday night and plan to be drinking, don’t drive.
That’s the message from the Monmouth County DWI Task Force, which will be conducting a DWI checkpoint.
The checkpoint is set for Route 9 northbound in the area of Regal Plaza. Drivers will be diverted into the plaza and screened for their sobriety.

The checkpoint is from 11 p.m. Wednesday through 3 a.m. Thursday. Members of the Howell police department will work alongside throughout the checkpoint.
“Unfortunately, the night before the Thanksgiving holiday continues to see an uptick in DWI-related incidents,” said Allenhurst Police Chief Michael Schneider, the task force coordinator. “The hope of the Task Force is that all drivers use designated drivers or ride-sharing options, in order to prevent a holiday arrest, or worse, a tragedy.”
