While the Mate XT has turned heads with its bleeding edge tri-fold design, HUAWEI still has the Mate X6 for those who want a more conservative foldable. This foldable is insanely thin at only under 5mm when unfolded, and is the first HUAWEI device to use HarmonyOS Next, their next-generation UI that’s not based on Android. Instead, it is based on a new in-house kernel that HUAWEI developed for the past 5 years.
The Mate X6 has slightly bigger displays than its predecessor: the inner display is a 7.93-inch LTPO OLED panel with a near-square aspect ratio, 120Hz variable refresh rate, and a 2440×2240 resolution, and the outer display is a 6.45-inch LTPO OLED with a 120Hz variable refresh rate and a Full HD resolution.
The Mate X6’s cameras combine shooters found on other HUAWEI phones: a 50-megapixel f/1.4-4.0 used on the Mate 70 series, a 48-megapixel telephoto with 4x optical zoom that’s used on the Mate 70 Pro, and a 40-megapixel ultra-wide camera with AF used on the Pura 70 Ultra. Like the Mate 70 series, the Mate X6 also has a Spectral Imaging Sensor that aids in better color accuracy in photos.
The battery depends on the variant you’re getting: 5110mAh for the 12GB RAM version, and 5200mAh for the 16GB RAM version. Both support 66w wired and 50w wireless charging. You also get satellite connectivity, a 3D vapor chamber with liquid cooling, and 2nd-gen Kunlun glass protection. You get an improved hinge and an added IPx8 rating for protection against water ingress.
The Mate X6 starts at CNY 12,999(~Php 106k) for the 12GB/256GB version, and it remains to be seen if HUAWEI has any plans of selling it outside of China–the last foldable that they sold globally was the Mate X3.
