Press Statement
Antony J. Blinken, Secretary of State
November 25, 2024
On the 25thย Anniversary of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and the start of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, the United States renews our commitment to preventing and responding to all forms of gender-based violence and calls on the international community to join in a collective strengthening of these efforts.
U.S. policy and investments are yielding real-life impacts. ย Through our Safe from the Start ReVisioned initiative, we are prioritizing improving and expanding gender-based violence prevention, risk mitigation, response efforts, and expertise from the outset of all emergencies. ย In Fiscal Year 2024, the U.S. government provided more than $273 million in funding for gender-based violence prevention and response in emergencies.
This work matters to every survivor, to every individual facing gender-based violence, and to every global citizen striving to create a world that is peaceful and prosperous.ย The United States will continue to collaborate with partner governments, civil society, and survivors to achieve meaningful progress.
