Merida Airport joins United Nations campaign to end violence against women – The Yucatan Times

As part of the global campaign led by the United Nations to end violence against women and girls, Grupo ASUR and CIFAL Mérida illuminate the commercial and private aviation terminals of the Mérida International Airport in orange.

This action is part of the 16 Days of Activism promoted by UN Women, which urges governments, civil society, young people, the private sector, and the media to join forces to combat this problem. According to data from the World Health Organization, 1 in 3 women in the world has suffered physical or sexual violence by their partner or another person. These alarming figures reflect that progress in the fight for women’s rights remains fragile.

In collaboration with UNICEF Mexico, the ÚNETE campaign began today at the airport, where actions will be promoted to end impunity. These include creating laws and policies that hold perpetrators accountable, implementing funded national action plans to eradicate violence, and investing in women’s rights movement initiatives.

“Our airport community is diverse, and many women are part of our workforce. We joined this important campaign to foster respect and ensure our industry is free of these situations. That is the message we will convey in the coming days when visitors see the airport lit in orange,” said Mr. Héctor Navarrete Muñoz, Director of Regional Airports for Grupo ASUR.

With these actions, the Mérida International Airport reaffirms its commitment to equality, security, and justice for women and girls worldwide.
