Southern Palawan students are set to benefit from enhanced science education with the upcoming construction of two new science laboratories in the towns of Brooke’s Point and Sofronio Española, courtesy of Coral Bay Nickel Corporation (CBNC).
CBNC broke ground for the new science laboratory buildings in Brooke’s Point at Ipilan National High School and in Sofronio Española at Doris E. Martinez National High School on November 14, 2024.
CBNC Community Relations Manager Bernie Martinez explained that the facilities are part of CBNC’s ongoing efforts to support education and research in the region.
“Coral Bay Nickel Corporation strongly believes in the power of education, particularly in science and research, as a driving force for progress. CBNC itself is a product of research,” Martinez said during the ceremony.
The initiative also underscores CBNC’s dedication to equipping Palawan students with tools and spaces for scientific learning. Recently, the company turned over similar facilities to Narra Integrated School in Narra and Liminangcong National High School in Taytay.
Meanwhile, Mayor Cesario Benedito expressed heartfelt gratitude to CBNC for its contribution, saying it will be a big help to the students.
“Thank you, Coral Bay Nickel Corporation, for your donation to the Municipality of Brooke’s Point and the support you extend to the rest of Palawan,” Benedito said.
On the other hand, Sofronio Española Vice Mayor Marcito C. Acoy noted that the CBNC project is a significant support for the local government.
“Thank you to Coral Bay Nickel Corporation for this generous donation to Doris E. Martinez National High School. This contribution greatly benefits not only the education sector but also the local government,” Acoy emphasized.
Department of Education Schools Division of Palawan Chief Education Supervisor Pedro Dandal, meanwhile, highlighted the broader impact of the donation, recognizing that more than the buildings, CBNC has extended support to educational development in the province.
“This goes beyond the construction of buildings; it’s an investment in the future of Palaweño students. It also symbolizes a long-term partnership with the Department of Education to improve educational outcomes.
The private sector, alongside local government units, plays a vital role in the development of schools and communities,” Dandal remarked.
CBNC has consistently shown its commitment to science education through various initiatives.
Recently, the mining firm sponsored the Division Scilympics in November, held at the Citystate Asturias Hotel, which brought together more than 500 students from high schools across Palawan.
CBNC’s initiatives aim to inspire young minds and strengthen the foundation for science and research in Palawan, ensuring a brighter future for the region’s youth.
