NEW DELHI: Leader of opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi faced another microphone glitch on Tuesday as he addressed an event on Constitution in New Delhi.
Rahul Gandhi, who started his speech by showing a copy of Constitution, opened attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying the PM has never read the book. The Congress leader, however, faced another technical glitch as his mic went off in mid-speech for about 10 minutes. The leaders on the stage were seen running around trying to fix the issue while Rahul Gandhi stood smiling at the podium.
As the glitch was resolved, Rahul Gandhi asserted that no matter how many times his microphone is switched off, he will continue to talk about the issues.
“In this country for the last 3,000 years whoever talks about Dalits, tribals, backward classes, poor, his mic gets switched off. When the mic was switched off, a lot of people came and told me to go and sit. I said I will not sit, I will stand, switch off the mic as much as you want, I will speak whatever I want to,” Rahul Gandhi said in an indirect reference to PM Modi amid supportive chants by the audience.
“Here is Rohith Vemula’s photo behind, he wanted to speak but his voice was taken away,” the Congress leader said.
This is the second time in a week the Congress faced this situation.
Earlier, just five days ago, Rahul Gandhi faced power outage during his press conference on Gautam Adani’s indictment in the United States.
When the power came back, Rahul Gandhi mockingly said, “Adani power, Modi power, don’t know which power it is. But both of them are one.”
BJP’s Sambit Patra, however, took a swipe at the power cut alleging that it was done by Gandhi’s own colleague Jairam Ramesh. “Rahul Gandhi keeps repeating the same thing in press conference. There was a power cut during his press conference for which he again blamed Adani and PM Modi. It’s his office, his electricity … I think his own people must have cut the power. I think Jairam Ramesh must have cut the power,” BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra had said.
Mic glitch during Rahul Gandhi’s event comes amid Parliament winter session. Since the Lok Sabha elections after which Rahul Gandhi was elected the leader of opposition in the House, Congress has time and again blamed the Speaker and the Modi government of switching off Rahul Gandhi’s mic during his statements.
