Chainsaw Man season 2 allegedly confirmed by Shueisha legal filings

Saturday, November 16, 2024 saw X (formerly Twitter) user and reputable general anime news source @AnimeTsumi (Tsumi) allege that Chainsaw Man season 2 has been confirmed. Tsumi claims this unofficial news comes from new legal documents filed by Shueisha, which is a logical claim and does follow typical anime production patterns.

Unfortunately, Tsumi doesn’t share any other information on Chainsaw Man season 2 as of this article’s writing. Moreover, there are no other reputable sources corroborating Tsumi’s claim as of press time. However, given the fact that production on the upcoming Reze Arc film is likely nearing its end, it would make sense for Shueisha to begin moving forward with season 2’s production.

Chainsaw Man season 2 rumored to show first signs of production activity from Shueisha

Lending further legitimacy to Tsumi’s Chainsaw Man season 2 claim is the fact that the 2024 iteration of Shueisha’s in-house Jump Festa convention event is coming in December. While it’s expected that the presence of mangaka Tatsuki Fujimoto’s original manga-turned-anime series will focus primarily on the upcoming film, it could also reveal season 2. In fact, it would make sense to both announce the Reze Arc film’s release date and season 2’s production at once.

Further supporting the idea that such season 2 info may be discussed are rumors that Tatsuya Yoshihara is replacing Ryu Nakayama as director for the Reze Arc film. Given that Nakayama is already rumored to be replaced for season 2, it’s likely that Yoshihara will also be the sequel series’ director. This further supports the idea that Jump Festa 2025 will reveal information on both the Reze Arc film and season 2.

While the television anime adaptation’s status will likely be the main focus of the franchise at December’s event, the manga should also have a strong presence. Part 2 will likely be reaching its conclusion around that time given current pacing and relative length to Part 1. In turn, Fujimoto may provide some clarity on the manga’s future while an update is given on both Chainsaw Man season 2 and the Reze Arc film.

However, this is all speculative as of this article’s writing, with nothing confirmed regarding the franchise’s announcements for the event. It’s also far too early for such rumors to be spreading, with those typically coming in early December just weeks before Jump Festa begins. Fans can likewise expect additional clarity on the series’ event presence in the coming weeks.

Fujimoto’s original Chainsaw Man manga series first began serialization in December 2018 in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump publication magazine. It ran there until December 2020, taking a nearly two-year break before returning with its ongoing second part in July 2022. The series also moved from the Weekly Shonen Jump publication to the digital Shonen Jump+ catalog.
