Man Struck Woman With Revolver Before Plainfield Standoff, Police Say

PLAINFIELD, IL — A man was taken into custody after he barricaded himself inside a Plainfield Township home is facing charges after police said he struck a woman in the head multiple times with a revolver.

Devin Nier, 42, of Plainfield, was arrested Friday and charged with aggravated and domestic battery following the incident, the Will County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. He could face additional charges pending his first court appearance, authorities said.

Around 9:40 a.m. Friday, deputies responded to a home in the 25100 block of Diana Court after receiving a report about a 42-year-old woman who had been shot in the head. According to authorities, the woman fled the residence before deputies arrived and hid in a nearby car.

Upon arrival, authorities located the woman, who was bleeding “profusely” from the head, the release stated. She was taken to the hospital, where authorities said she is in stable condition.

According to authorities, Nier was inside the home with a reported hostage. A perimeter was set up around the area and residents were asked to shelter in place before Nier surrendered and was taken into custody around 11:35 a.m.

Detectives later obtained a search warrant for the residence and located a rifle and ammunition inside. Investigators also determined the victim had not been shot and the injuries she suffered in that attack happened when she was struck in the head numerous times with a revolver-type pistol, authorities said.

The reported hostage was never located, authorities said, nor was the revolver used in the attack.
