‘How to Train Your Dragon’ live-action set for 2025

The highly anticipated live-action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon is set to bring the beloved world of Hiccup and Toothless to life on the big screen.

Starring Mason Thames, Gerard Butler, Nico Parker, and Nick Frost, the film is slated for release in Philippine cinemas on June 11, 2025.

The film, written and directed by three-time Oscar® nominee and Golden Globe winner Dean DeBlois, revisits the rugged isle of Berk, where Vikings and dragons have long been at odds. Mason Thames (The Black Phone, For All Mankind) stars as Hiccup, the inventive but underestimated son of Chief Stoick the Vast, played by Butler, who reprises his role from the animated series.

Hiccup’s unlikely friendship with Toothless, a Night Fury dragon, challenges centuries-old traditions and reshapes Viking society.

The cast also features Julian Dennison, Gabriel Howell, Bronwyn James, Harry Trevaldwyn, Ruth Codd, Peter Serafinowicz, and Murray McArthur. The production is helmed by producers Marc Platt, Dean DeBlois, and Adam Siegel.

Based on Cressida Cowell’s bestselling book series, the How to Train Your Dragon franchise has captivated audiences worldwide, earning four Academy Award® nominations and grossing over $1.6 billion globally.

The live-action adaptation promises to elevate the story through cutting-edge visual effects, offering fans a breathtaking and realistic take on Hiccup and Toothless’s journey of friendship, courage, and destiny.

With DeBlois at the helm, the reimagined epic is set to rekindle the magic of the original trilogy and introduce it to a new generation of fans
