New schedules for familiar voices and Rory McClaren to refresh ABC Radio Adelaide’s line-up in 2025

ABC Radio Adelaide has announced its presenter line-up for 2025, starting with Rory McClaren as the host of its Mornings program to replace David Bevan.

Announced during celebrations for 100 years of radio in Adelaide, McClaren comes to the station after nearly four years as state political reporter with ABC News South Australia.

“I’m an Adelaide person, born and bred,” he said.

“My family and I have chosen to make it our home, we have family here, we have roots here, and that’s why I’m passionate about SA stories, SA issues, as well as bringing national and international issues to the audience.”

McClaren said it was an “absolute honour” to take over the program from Mornings presenter David Bevan, who has been on the ABC airwaves for 24 years and is retiring in December.

“I’ve certainly taken a lot from it and I’ll continue to take a lot from as it, as I move into this chair on a permanent basis,” he said.

McClaren has worked as a political journalist for nearly a decade, having worked for The Advertiser, Channel 10 in Adelaide and Melbourne, and then Channel Nine in Adelaide.

“This is where listeners might have started to learn about me, in my contributions to [ABC Radio Adelaide’s] Spin Cycle, and then for the ABC in the last three-and-a-half years.”

Familiar voices, new schedules

Also new in 2025 will be the ABC Sport Daily, a weekday 15-minute wrap of all things sport-related between 6:30pm and 6:45pm.

The Evenings program will be presented by ABC stalwart Spence Denny from 6:45pm, with Jason Chong to present Sunday mornings between 10am and 12pm.

Afternoons’ Nikolai Beilharz and Drive’s Jo Laverty will exchange roles to take advantage of their unique presentation styles and approach.

Afternoons will start half an hour earlier with Laverty at 12:30pm (in the place of the Country Hour, which can be heard on 639 AM or via the ABC Listen app), and Drive with Nikolai Beilharz will also start earlier at 3pm and run until 6pm.

PM will now start at 6pm and run until 6:30pm.

Weekends with Deb Tribe will continue as usual from 6am to 11am Saturday, followed by Grandstand with Aaron Bryans.

“We enter 2025 with a strong focus on continuing to align ourselves with the needs of our audience,” ABC Radio Adelaide director Graeme Bennett said.

“We welcome Rory McClaren to the team with enormous confidence that he will honour our long-held tradition of informing our audience on what matters to South Australians and ensuring the decision-makers are held to account.”

Mr Bennett said familiar voices would find new places on the station’s broadcast schedule.

“This is an approach that has served us well over many years and one we believe will bring out the best in a team that we know our audience respects,” he said.

“The places at the table may change but the friends remain the same.”

Wendy Glamocak to retire

Also retiring in December is ABC Radio Adelaide newsreader Wendy Glamocak, who started at the ABC in the same week as David Bevan.

Known for her calm, empathetic voice — and the occasional giggle while reporting lighter moments — Glamocak said it was “time for a new chapter”.

“The news is often depressing, but it’s sometimes uplifting, and on more than one occasion I’ve had to laugh at it,” she said.

“I’ve been so lucky to have a career that I’ve dreamt of since childhood, and best of all I have life-long friendships from the ABC.

“I wish the ABC and its audience all the best.”

Mr Bennett said the station thanked its loyal listeners for their support in 2024.

“We look forward to a year that will no doubt spark discussion, debate and passionate conversation,” he said.

“We’ll be there with you.”
