LINCOLN PARK — Two people were injured, including a firefighter, after a fire broke out early Friday morning near Cafe Brauer at the Lincoln Park Zoo, fire officials said.
The fire was reported at 4:20 a.m. at Cafe Brauer, 2021 N. Stockton Drive, said Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford.
The fire damaged a shed used to store propane tanks, Langford said.
The fire appears to have been caused by a man that police suspect was trying to stay warm in the cold weather, Langford said. Police are investigating the incident.
“Police interviewed a person that was on scene as they conducted a criminal investigation,” Langford said. “One of the propane tanks was turned on but there was no explosion.”
A firefighter sustained minor injuries while battling the fire, Langford said. A 46-year-old man had a “medical issue” and was transported to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.
Neither injury was burn-related.
The fire did not cause damage to Cafe Brauer or harm any zoo animals, Langford confirmed.
