Newcastle won’t move for Guehi in January – Soccer News

According to The Times, Newcastle are unlikely to reignite their interest in Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi in January, having failed to complete the transfer of the England international after several attempts during the summer this year.

Newcastle, owned by the Saudi Public Investment Fund, are trying to stay mindful of the danger of breaking the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PRS), and with Sven Botman set to return from injury very soon, they’ve judged that their need to reinforce the attacking ranks is greater than to sign a defender in the middle of the season. They barely avoided breaching the rules at the end of the summer window, being forced to sell the youthful duo of Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh.

Guehi, whose excellent performances for Palace last season and for England at the Euros, have attracted plenty of interest, continues to shine this term. It remains to be seen if other potential suitors – he’s been linked with Liverpool and Manchester United as well – try and take advantage of Newcastle’s current transfer plans.
