DOWNTOWN — The Shedd Aquarium is transforming its underwater wonderland into one of the city’s most unique holiday parties.
The aquarium will host the adults-only Holiday House Party from 7-11 p.m. Dec. 14 at 1200 S. DuSable Lake Shore Drive.
The 21-plus celebration pairs marine life encounters with holiday festivities and house music from Chicago-native Dee Jay Alicia. Guests — who are encouraged to wear ugly Christmas sweaters — can enjoy after-hours access to the aquarium’s exhibits, including the new feature exhibit “Amazon Rising.”
Tickets start at $19.95 for Chicago residents and $39.95 for non-Chicago residents. Food and drinks will also be available for purchase at the event. A valid photo ID is required for entry.
The Shedd is undergoing a $500 million overhaul that includes upgrades to its current amenities and the addition of new features, including a 40-foot long underwater tunnel to house rescued green sea turtle Nickel and new spotted eagle rays. The project is scheduled to be finished by the aquarium’s 100th anniversary in 2030.
