Apple plans to further improve Siri with iOS 19 in 2025 by using advanced next-generation large language models (LLMs).
Thanks to the new LLMs powering Siri, the voice assistant should become much more conversational.
Siri could get even better in iOS 19
Apple introduced major Siri upgrades with iOS 18 this year, including a sleek new design. With Apple Intelligence, the voice assistant got smarter.
An even bigger upgrade to Siri will arrive with iOS 18.4 next year, enabling you to use the voice assistant to control apps. The Cupertino giant is heavily relying on AI to improve and supercharge the Siri experience. But that’s not it, as Apple plans an even bigger upgrade to Siri with iOS 19 in 2025.
Bloomberg reports that Apple is developing a “more conversational” Siri powered by advanced large language models. This will allow for natural conversations, as seen with Gemini Live and ChatGPT’s voice mode. Apple employees reportedly refer to the feature internally as “LLM Siri.” It will become a part of Apple Intelligence when rolled out.
“The next-generation LLM planned for iOS 19 will be a new, end-to-end system that provides more advanced, ChatGPT-like capabilities,” says the report.
Apple hiring engineers to work on building intelligent assistants
In recent months, Apple has made several job postings to hire the right people for this task.
One of the listings says, “You will join a team that is redefining computing, creating groundbreaking conversational assistant technologies for both large-scale systems and new client devices, and with the people who built the intelligent assistants.”
Despite Apple testing the conversational Siri for iOS 19, it won’t be released when the OS launches in September 2025. Instead, it will seemingly only debut in spring 2026. Since the feature is still in development, Apple’s plans could change, and the more conversational Siri might launch as part of iOS 19 itself.
