Mérida to host International Cardiology Congress – The Yucatan Times

With the participation of specialists from Mexico and other countries from around the world, the National Congress of Interventional Cardiology will be held in Mérida from December 8 to 10.

Organized by the Society of Interventional Cardiology of Mexico (Socime), chaired by Dr. Guering Eid Lidt, the Congress will bring together the best of world interventional cardiology.

Among the attendees are Dr. Martine Gilard, future president of European interventional cardiology, and Dr. Mario Araya, president of the Latin American Society of Interventional Cardiology. Also present will be Dr. Mayra Guerrero, from the Mayo Clinic in the United States, and one of the world’s leading structural interventional cardiologists and researchers. She will be in charge of the opening conference.

“We will have more than 20 international professors and more than one hundred from all over the country,” says Dr. Eid Lidt. Among the internationals are doctors from France, Belgium, Spain, the United States, Brazil and Central America.

In an interview with Diario de Yucatán, the president of Socime reports that Congress will address issues related to complex coronary angioplasty, structural interventionism, interventionism in pediatric cardiology, and peripheral cardiovascular interventionism.

In the case of complex coronary angioplasty, Dr. Eid shares that the intervention at the level of the heart arteries will be discussed. “Structural interventionism —explains the doctor— refers to the treatment through catheterization, of the aortic, mitral, and tricuspid valves.”

Regarding interventionism in pediatric cardiology, the doctor says that congenital anomalies, heart defects, and other topics will be discussed. Five symposiums are planned in this area.

In the case of peripheral vascular interventionism, they will address the treatment of aortas, pulmonary thromboembolism, and carotid arteries, among others.

Live cases

In addition to conferences, symposiums, and workshops, the Congress will present four live cases, two will be done at the Clínica de las Américas with Dr. Ricardo Alejos, and two others at Star Médica with Dr. Alejandro Díaz. “This is important because normally when we go to another city in the congresses we transmit cases from Mexico City, but this time we said that they should be cases from Mérida because there is good interventional cardiology.”

The Congress is aimed primarily at interventional cardiologists, but also for graduated internists and clinical cardiologists. Likewise, anesthesiologists, pulmonologists, angiologists, and cardiothoracic surgeons can attend. More information on the site socime.com.mx
