Hey Daddy, did you lose your job?

Getting fired often comes abruptly and unexpectedly. The feeling can be even more difficult for those working in creative fields like design, as work seems to be not just an occupation, but part of our identity. Losing your job is hard, but itโ€™s not the end of the world. It might even be a new beginning.

I know that we, designers, usually talk about the techniques and practices we master in our work, but we rarely discuss more personal and impactful issues, like being fired. Many of us have gone through this; if youโ€™re reading this article and havenโ€™t experienced it yet, you might face it someday.

Getting fired affects everyone; but what if we approach it more pragmatically instead of seeing dismissal as the end of everything? How can we overcome it without letting the emotional impact paralyze us? Furthermore, how can we move forward with renewed confidence and focus?

In this article, I invite you to reflect on how being fired can be viewed differently: not as an obstacle, but as an opportunity to reinvent yourself, grow, and focus on new possibilities. By adopting a more pragmatic perspective, we can use this difficult moment to strengthen ourselves and chart a more assertive path for the future.
