it’s time to put a stop to the e-thug bullying bullshit

I’m ready for the hate on this post, but the online bullying has reached insane levels. As an old guy who has been playing since NES, I didn’t realize until my younger brother started playing.

EA NHL, he’s 10 yrs old, he happened to be playing on my account so voice comms are enabled, and I overhear his teammate “go fking hang yourself you worthless piece of shit. the world would be a better place if you were dead.” He missed a penalty shot in a 3v3 unranked game. To top it off our dad took his own life not long ago.

Consider this a PSA guys. Think before you speak. Sitting on your couch behind the comfort of your anonymous gaming profile, your e-thug hate speech has an impact. I’m now having long discussions about suicide and the toxicity of online gaming with my innocent little bro.

I think it takes all of us to step up, and recognize when it’s appropriate to send a little shade and when comments or chats cross the line. I think we have to all do better, and while this post will likely fade off into the ether, maybe it’ll reach that one severely troubled person who told my 10yr old brother to commit suicide. /rant
