A 19-year-old man is now facing a murder charge after allegedly intercepting and hacking to death a long-time rival in Proper, Barangay Maytegued, Taytay, Palawan, on the morning of Saturday, November 16.
The victim was identified as 35-year-old fisherman Reymond Gueriba Calinog, while the suspect was named as Alwin Edenden, also known as “Win.” Both are residents of the same area.
Reports revealed that the victim was on his way to Barrio Proper, riding a top-down tricycle with a companion from the fields, when they were intercepted by the suspect.
Armed with a machete, Edenden reportedly attacked Calinog in a fit of rage, repeatedly shouting, “I will kill you!”
The attack only stopped when the suspect’s father arrived and managed to restrain him. Following the incident, the suspect immediately fled the scene.
The victim was transported by boat to the Northern Palawan Provincial Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, the suspect’s parents voluntarily surrendered their son to the Taytay Municipal Police Station. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the case.
