NEXT UP | Enfield Town (30/11/24 3pm KO) – Torquay United

United are back on their travels tomorrow, as they take on Enfield Town at the Queen Elizabeth II Stadium

Following The Gulls’ dramatic 4-2 win over Weston-super-Mare in midweek, Paul Wotton’s side will be looking to continue their pursuit of top spot with victory tomorrow, however having already faced Town on the opening day of the season, they will be sure of another tough test again tomorrow.

Who’s The Boss?

Manager Gavin Macpherson enjoyed a remarkable first season at Queen Elizabeth II Stadium, as his team secured promotion to National League South following a comprehensive Play-Off Final victory over Chatham Town (3–0).

Macpherson’s success at Town follows on from a lengthy spell at Metropolitan Police FC, a club where he spent 20 years as player, assistant and manager.

With Gulls boss Wotton having locked horns with Macpherson’s Met Police in the past, there will be another chance for the two to lock horns again in Greater London tomorrow.

How Have They Been Doing?

It’s been something of a baptism of fire for Enfield thus far, with the Towners’ total of just 11 points from 18 outings leaving them bottom of the NLS table.

Although their last outing saw them go down to a 2-1 defeat against Hornchurch, November’s other results should give them cause for optimism, with their 1-0 win over Slough followed up by a promising 1-1 draw with Dorking.

Player to Watch

Town have found goals somewhat hard to come by so far this term, with 17 goals spread amongst the group.

Midfielder Sam Youngs’ impressive performances in Enfield’s engine room should never be judged purely by goals, however he currently leads with the way with three goals and one assist.

Played for Both

If one player in the Towners line-up will be looking forward to United’s visit more than anyone else, it’s likely to be former Gulls youngster Mickey Parcell.

Having graduated through the youth ranks to turn professional at Plainmoor with Chris Hargreaves’ side in 2014/15, Right-back Mickey turned to his hometown club after finding his first-team route blocked.

A successful first spell at Enfield saw him welcomed back with open arms last summer, with his two spells at Town separated by a four-year stint at Hornchurch.

Parcell has certainly enjoyed his season so far, making 17 appearances in the sixth tier so far.

Previous Encounter

The two sides have only met once before – back in August.

On that occasion, there was opening day joy at Plainmoor on Saturday, as United’s new era kicked off with a 2-1 victory over Enfield Town.

After Enfield’s Lewis Taafe drew first blood for the visitors, United responded swiftly through Matt Carson, and things got even better before the break, with Brad Ash sending The Gulls into the break 2-1 up. Chances came and went in the second period, but with the Yellow Army backing them every step of the way, The Gulls saw the result through.
