Four individuals wanted for murder voluntarily surrendered on Thursday afternoon at the Provincial Intelligence Unit of the Palawan Police Provincial Office at Camp Higinio A. Mendoza Sr. in Barangay Tiniguiban, Puerto Princesa City.
The individuals, whose identities were withheld, voluntarily surrendered to Police Lt. Col. Salvador Tabi, chief of the Provincial Intelligence Unit (PIU) under the Palawan Police Provincial Office (PPPO).
Their surrender was in compliance with a warrant issued on December 22, 2020.
The warrant, issued by Judge Angelo Arizala of Branch 52, 4th Judicial Region in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, pertains to a murder charge filed under Criminal Case Number 33810. No bail was recommended.
The PPPO did not provide further details, but a source claimed that the four individuals are allegedly linked to the May 2016 murders of two supporters—Diosdado Basas and Alfredo Rodriguez—affiliated with the campaign teams of Palawan congressional candidate Gil Acosta and mayoral candidate Lucilo Bayron. The two victims were killed in separate incidents in Puerto Princesa City.
The individuals who voluntarily surrendered were allegedly security personnel for former congressmen Douglas Hagedorn and Edward Hagedorn, who at the time were running against Acosta and Bayron.
Basas was part of a group of motorcycle riders who clashed with supporters of their political rival after crossing paths on a bridge along the national highway in Barangay Maoyon, just outside the city center, in the afternoon of May 5.
Rodriguez, on the other hand, was the one who led a group of around 100 motorcycle riders who wrongly entered the territory of Hagedorn supporters in Barangay Sta. Lourdes around midnight on the same day.
The surrendered individuals are now in the custody of the police.
